Overview

The neck is often one of the first areas to show the effects of aging. This can include loose skin, vertical bands or fullness under the chin. A neck lift creates a smoother, more youthful neck and a more defined jawline.

A neck lift is often performed in conjunction with a facelift since both these areas age together and look most natural when treated as a unit.

Is it right for you?

You may be a good candidate if the following describe you:

  • You have loose neck skin, vertical bands or fullness under the chin.
  • You feel your jawline has lost definition.
  • Your skin has reasonable elasticity.
  • You are in good general health and do not smoke.

How the procedure works

Depending on your anatomy a neck lift may involve tightening of the underlying muscle, removal of excess skin and/or addressing the fat under the chin. In some cases liposuction is also used.

Incisions are made in discreet areas, often behind the ears and under the chin.

Recovery

Common questions

Neck Lift questions

Answers to questions patients ask most about this procedure.
Do I need a facelift too?
Not always. Some patients benefit from a neck lift alone while others achieve the most balanced results when a neck lift and facelift are combined. Dr. Whitlock recommends based on your individual needs and anatomy.
Will it help a 'double chin'?
Fullness under the chin can often be addressed during a neck lift and in some cases liposuction is also used to achieve a cleaner jawline and neck.
