Overview

Some patients desire removal of their breast implants. This is referred to as explant. Reasons for explant vary and may include personal preference or lifestyle changes as well as specific medical reasons.

You desire removal of your breast implants for personal or medical reasons.

Is it right for you?

You may be a good candidate if the following describe you:

  • You would like your implants removed for personal or medical reasons.
  • You desire to know how your breasts will appear following explant.
  • You want to understand how your breasts will look after removal.
  • You are in good general health.

How the procedure works

Depending on your goals and tissue, explant may be combined with a lift to address the looseness that can remain following explant. The handling of the surrounding capsule will be discussed on an individual basis based on your situation.

During your consultation, an honest discussion about the results of explant will take place so that there are no surprises.

Do you remove the capsule?
Capsule handling is individualized. Dr. Whitlock will discuss whether removal of some or all of the capsule is appropriate for your situation.
