Overview

For many women it is not about looking different. It is about proportions that match the way you already see yourself, or getting back what pregnancy, nursing, or weight change slowly took away.

Dr. Whitlock views augmentation as a sizing conversation instead of a catalog of options. Implant size, profile and type will be chosen based on your breast measurements, existing breast tissue and the desired result you are asking for instead of a number on a box.

Is it right for you?

You may be a good candidate if the following describe you:

  • You feel that your breast size does not match the rest of your body.
  • You have lost breast size or changed your proportion due to pregnancy, nursing or weight gain/loss.
  • You have a noticeable asymmetry in your breasts that you would like to correct.
  • You are in good overall health and are not a smoker and are making this decision yourself.

How the procedure works

During your consultation implant type (saline, silicone or structured), implant size and profile will be discussed with your measurements in mind. The goal is achieving a natural result both in and out of clothing instead of an appearance that looks like a surgical procedure.

Implant placement (above or below the muscle) and incision site will be chosen to fit your anatomy and to provide discreet scarring. Surgery is performed as an outpatient under general anesthesia.

If there is sagging that cannot be corrected with an implant alone, Dr. Whitlock will discuss whether a lift should also be included in the surgery.

Common questions

Breast Augmentation questions

Answers to questions patients ask most about this procedure.
How do I know what size is right?
There is no one right answer and that is by design. The right size depends on your breast measurements, existing breast tissue and your desired proportion. Dr. Whitlock will work with you on sizing options so that you can leave the consultation with a clear picture of what the result will look like on your body.
Silicone or saline: what is the difference?
Both are FDA approved. Silicone implants tend to have a more natural feel. Saline implants are filled during surgery and can allow for a slightly smaller incision. Dr. Whitlock will discuss both options with you and explain the differences in plain language.
Will I need to replace my implants eventually?
Implants are not necessarily lifetime devices but many patients go a decade or more without needing any changes. Some patients choose to have a revision later for personal reasons or sometimes for medical reasons. Regular follow ups are the best way to monitor implants over time.
When can I get back to working out?
Walking is encouraged early. Higher impact and upper body activities are gradually reintroduced over several weeks as your recovery shows you are cleared to do so. Dr. Whitlock will set clearances at your follow up appointments.
