Overview

Changes from pregnancy are real and structural. Separated abs, loose skin, and changes in breast size cannot be overcome by exercise alone. A mommy makeover combines procedures that do address these changes.

No two plans are the same. Yours will be designed around the changes that you want addressed, and in a combination that makes the most sense for your goals and recovery.

Is it right for you?

You may be a good candidate if the following describe you:

  • You are done having children and at a stable weight.
  • Your abdomen, breasts or both have been changed by pregnancy in ways that exercise cannot address.
  • You would rather have all procedures performed in one recovery rather than staged procedures.
  • You are in good general health and do not smoke.

How the procedure works

Most mommy makeovers combine a tummy tuck (to remove loose skin and repair separated abs) with breast surgery. Breast surgery can include a lift, augmentation or a combination of both. Flank or waist liposuction is also commonly performed.

Dr. Whitlock will help you decide what to address and how much should be addressed in one procedure. Your plan is unique to you. One anesthesia and one recovery.

Common questions

Mommy Makeover questions

Answers to questions patients ask most about this procedure.
What's actually included?
It is personalized, that's the point. Most plans include a tummy tuck and breast surgery, and often include liposuction. What is included in your plan will depend on your concerns, goals and what makes the most sense for your health and recovery.
Is it safe to combine that many procedures?
Combining procedures is common and well tolerated in healthy patients. Patient selection and surgical planning are important. Dr. Whitlock will evaluate your health, proposed procedures and recovery capacity before determining your plan.
How long should I plan to take off?
Most patients plan to be away from work for two to three weeks, with help at home during the first week. The exact timeline depends on the procedures included in your plan.

Recovery guide

What to expect, week by week

Healing timelines vary. Use this as a general reference and follow your specific post-operative instructions from Dr. Whitlock.

What to Expect

  • Significant swelling, managed discomfort
  • Surgical drains in place if used

Your Routine

  • Rest in a slightly bent position to reduce tension
  • Begin compression garment immediately

Talk it through before you decide.

Cost, scars, time off, photos, and whether or not the results will be worth it are all part of the same conversation. These trade-offs will be discussed during the consultation.
