Breast Implant Sizing Guide

Breast width, implant volume, profile, projection, and how to make a realistic sizing decision.

One of the most frequently asked questions regarding breast augmentation is what size should I choose? The honest answer is that the right implant for you is the implant that fits your goals and body, not a specific cup size.

This guide will explain the factors involved in sizing so that your consultation is more productive.

Why cup size is not the best guide

Cup size varies between brands and styles making it an unreliable goal. Surgeons instead use volume of the implant measured in cubic centimeters (cc) and relate this to your measurements.

Breast width and your frame

Your breast and chest width will set the foundation. An implant that is too wide for your chest width can look unnatural. The appropriate base width will support a balanced result.

Volume, profile, and projection

For a given width, implants come in different profiles. Higher profile implants project more forward while lower profile implants are flatter and wider. Volume and profile together will determine the final appearance.

Making a realistic decision

During your consultation Dr. Whitlock will review your measurements and goals and help you compare implants. The goal is to achieve a balanced, natural and comfortable result for your lifestyle.

This guide is general educational information and is not medical advice. Dr. Whitlock makes recommendations after examining the concern and talking through your health history.

Talk it through before you decide.

Cost, scars, time off, photos, and whether or not the results will be worth it are all part of the same conversation. These trade-offs will be discussed during the consultation.
