A smooth recovery is part of a good result and most of it comes down to preparation. Knowing what to expect and planning support in advance will allow you to focus on healing.
This is a general guide. Specific instructions will be provided by Dr. Whitlock based on the procedure you are having.
Plan your time off
Different procedures require different amounts of downtime. Many patients return to desk work within several days to two weeks and strenuous activity can typically be resumed over several weeks.
Plan time off and for the first day or two have a responsible adult to help at home.
Set up your recovery space
Set up a comfortable room with access to water, phone chargers, medications and entertainment. Provide easy-to-eat meals so you do not have to cook.
Garments and medications
For many body and breast procedures, a compression garment supports healing and is worn as directed. Fill your prescriptions ahead of time and follow the medication schedule you are given.
Follow-up and red flags
Make sure to attend follow-up appointments so healing can be monitored. If you notice anything out of the ordinary please call the office promptly. You will be given information on what to be aware of after surgery.
